The Project

Doorway Dilemma was a fast-paced series of door-themed microgames, from smashing through doors to lock-picking under pressure. Each challenge lasted only seconds, forcing players to quickly adapt to new rules.

What I Did & Creative Approach

I made everything solo, using Unity and Aseprite for visuals and animation. My primary creative challenge was visual communication, making the player able to quickly and immediately notice the important elements in any given minigames. As in any microgames, I had to design the pixel art and animations with exaggerated visual cues informing the player of whether to click, drag, or tap. The main challenge was tuning the pacing, making sure each microgame was short, understandable at a glance, and fun under pressure with the only external element was music from a pre-owned asset pack.

What I Learned

This project hammered in the importance of scoping for polish. I planned tightly, prioritized essentials, and actually finished early, a rarity in game jams. If I had more time, I’d expand with more microgames, but I’m proud of how polished it feels given the timeframe

Why I did this project

I made this for a game jam because I wanted to explore creative constraints, both testing myself under pressure and seeing how many distinct verbs my gameplay could explore in the limited time. It was an exercise in building on a simple concept and stretching it into a fun humorous experience.
